Universal Studios Home Entertainment has announced a Blu-ray/DVD Combo release of JAWS for August 14th. As well as featuring an all-new, digitally remastered and fully restored picture and 7.1 surround sound, the set will include a new feature length documentary ("The Shark is Still Working: The Impact & Legacy of JAWS"), a 2 hour documentary ("The Making of JAWS"), featurettes ("JAWS: The Restoration", "From the Set"), deleted scenes and outtakes, JAWS Archives (storyboards, production photos and marketing materials), the original theatrical trailer, and an UltraViolet digital copy of the film. The DVD will also contain a Spotlight on Location: The Making of JAWS featurette.

The JAWS restoration began with researching and evaluating the existing film elements to determine the best means to restore the film. Over the course of several months, skilled technicians at Universal Studios Digital Services meticulously balanced colour, removed dirt and scratches, and repaired any damage to the film elements shot by shot and frame by frame. Following the picture restoration, the Universal Studios Sound team up-mixed the iconic JAWS soundtrack to DTS-HD Master 7.1, optimising the sound on the Blu-ray™ for the latest home cinema technology. The entire restoration process was conducted in conjunction with Steven Spielberg and Amblin Entertainment’s post-production team to ensure the integrity of Spielberg’s original vision remained intact.

The US Combo Pack release is available in collectible Universal 100th Anniversary packaging for a limited time. There will also be a R1 DVD release which includes a single extra " Spotlight on Location: The Making of JAWS: Highlights from the full-length documentary featuring interviews with key cast and crew."
The UK release will be available in regular packaging and we also get a limited edition steelbook release.

Trilogía "QATSI" (1982-1988-2002) Blu-Ray - Director: Godfrey Reggio - Música: Philip Glass

Koyaanisqatsi (1982), Powaqqatsi (1988) y Naqoyqatsi (2002) son una "trilogía" de películas documentales experimentales dirigidas por Godfrey Reggio.
Su trilogía Qatsi, cuyos títulos provienen de la lengua Hopi; Koyaanisqatsi significa "Vida desequilibrada", Powaqqatsi "Vida en transformación", y Naqoyqatsi "La vida como guerra".
Producidas, entre otros, por Francis Ford Coppola y Steven Soderbergh; y cuya música ha sido compuesta por Philip Glass.

Koyaanisqatsi hace un uso extenso de la cámara lenta y el "time-lapse" y no contiene ni diálogo ni narración. Compuesta principalmente por imágenes de ciudades y paisajes naturales a lo largo de los Estados Unidos crea un poema visual cuyo tono es establecido mediante la yuxtaposición de imágenes y música.
La trilogía trata diferentes aspectos de la relación entre seres humanos, naturaleza y tecnología. Koyaanisqatsi es la más conocida de la trilogía y es considerada una película de culto. Sin embargo, por problemas de copyright, la película estuvo fuera de publicación durante la mayor parte de la década de los noventa.
La mirada se posó sobre los destrozos y el desequilibrio que los abusos del hombre causan a la naturaleza.
El rodaje de Koyaanisqatsi se tradujo en kilómetros y kilómetros de celuloide y llevó 7 años de la vida de Godfrey Reggio y de su equipo, entre ellos el camarógrafo principal Ron Fricke que luego de sus trabajos junto a Reggio filmaría otro poema visual por cuenta propia llamado Baraka (1987). Powaqqatsi es una concentración de las palabras hopi "powaqa", que significa "mago que vive a expensas de los demás", y "qatsi, vida". Imágenes del tercer mundo, impresiones de las culturas nativas de Asia, India, África y Sudamérica, retratos y detalles de tradiciones amenazadas, un enfrentamiento con los logros culturales y restos de tribus y razas. Powaqqatsi es un documento de creatividad y fantasías humanas, pero, al mismo tiempo, una muestra filmada de los peligros que amenazan a estos mundos, algunos de los cuales aún permanecen intactos.
El eje de Powaqqatsi es visualizar esta entidad que consume la vida de unos para que otros tenga vida y por lo cual es necesario el esfuerzo físico, imprescindible para la supervivencia. La vida de estos hombres es la del trabajo manual para arrancar a la tierra los frutos de los que van a alimentarse. Hombres y mujeres, grandes y pequeños. Lo humano no escapa a este ciclo laboral. Un mundo primario, agrícola, ganadero y minero por y para la tierra, donde el individuo no es más que el espíritu de la comunidad. Reggio ensalza el trabajo físico, mostrando las labores artesanas, hoy arrinconadas ya sólo en las culturas emergentes del Tercer Mundo.
Powaqqatsi requirió 5 años para su realización y fue rodada en 13 países de diferentes continentes, lo que cambió su enfoque de América del Norte a los más remotos rincones del planeta. Su visión hizo foco sobre la explotación del hombre por el hombre.

Naqoyqatsi es un obra de arte de la técnica de la transformación del píxel por parte de los ordenadores. La mayor parte de las imágenes proceden de otros documentos fílmicos de orígenes diversos (anuncios, documentales, etc.), pero que han sido retexturizados, remodelados, recoloreados, reanimados por obra y gracia de la tecnología digital que el film cuestiona.
El nudo fue el impacto que la tecnología tiene en nuestro modo de vivir.
