Mejores ediciones:
- R0 US "25th Anniversary Edition"/R0 Australian CE have by far the best set of extras and both the original Mono soundtrack and Dolby Surround remix, but unfortunately the transfer is interlaced and a few seconds are missing (cf. "General note" below).
- R2 Italy has alternate Italian soundtracks, including a "true" Dolby Digital 5.1 remix and some exclusive extras, but no English subtitles are provided on the movie, the extras are not English friendly and again a few seconds are missing.
- R2 France has the Italian Doilby Digital 5.1 soundtrack and some exclusive extras, but again no English subtitles are provided on the movie, the extras are not English friendly and a few seconds are still missing.
- R2 Holland "Ultrabit" edition has the complete movie and some extras, but only the original Mono soundtrack and the extras are presumably not English friendly.

El Blu-Ray:
Shameless Screen Entertainment have announced the UK DVD and Blu-ray Disc release of Cannibal Holocaust on 26th September 2011. Ruggero Deodato has revisited his controversial horror film to produce a brand new Director’s Edit of the film especially for its High Definition debut on Blu-ray.
This new Director’s Edit, which removes or partially hides several instances of real-life animal slaughter, will be released as a special Blu-ray (£24.99 RRP) and as two-disc DVD (£19.99 RRP) edition that includes both the new version and the original full version of Cannibal Holocaust, along with a host of extras specially commissioned for this release.
In a statement explaining the artistic decision to re-edit the film, Deodato says, “At the time, I would have preferred not to kill the animals during the making of the film, but this was requested by the producers. We’d sent them some early dailies and they kept calling us on set in the jungle asking us to shoot increasingly bloody scenes.
“I would not change anything to the film, its structure and content, aside from the fact that, now – thirty years later – I’ve reassessed the way the animals were dealt with. Now I would not do it.”
For those unaware the film is about a crew of documentary filmmakers who go missing while filming primitive cannibal tribes deep in the Amazonian rain forest. The horrific footage they shot before disappearing is found by the members of a second expedition who soon discover the horrific truth behind their demise.

Comentario:
Producto altamente shockeante por donde se lo mire, está plagado de atrocidades varias, tal vez no muy bien elaboradas a nivel F/X, pero ayudadas por el pulso nervioso de la cámara en mano y el montaje -saltando de eje a cada segundo- al punto de convertir un desmembramiento berreta en algo inquietante y perturbador. Para resumir, cuando los F/X prometen, la cámara se sale de foco. Pero los gritos y chillidos, cebados por la música de Riz Ortolani, hacen que todo termine dejándote con malestar estomacal.
Lo que sí es real, muy real y duro, es el asesinato de animales para total regocijo de la cámara. Una enorme tortuga de río, una comadreja y un mono
son literalmente masacrados en primer plano. Reprobables para muchos, necesarias para la tensión e impronta del film para otros, siguen siendo la
escena más discutida de Cannibal Holocaust en mil foros que no se detienen a repudiar, por ejemplo, los magros salarios que recibieron los aborígenes protagonistas del film. Deodato consiguió lo que quiso con su película clave (shockear, chamuyar y lucrar) y lo logró con creces. Un foso inevitable e
imprescindible, si tienen los cojones.
Bonus Tracks:
- El profesor hace "acercamiento cultural" con las nativas bañándose desnudo con ellas. ¡Winner!
- Uno de los jóvenes no pierde tiempo y poncha a la parejita de turno teniendo sexo. ¡Voyeur!
- Todos los jóvenes mueren en cámara, lo que indicaría que un caníbal filmó la última muerte. ¡Ídolo!
